VOLUNTEERS & INTERNS

The Center seeks out committed volunteers to assist our staff with a variety of projects. Currently, the Center has opportunities for assistance with archival projects. Highly desirable skills  include data entry, archival processing, cataloging,  carpentry, photography, and scanning.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Center accepts volunteers for a variety of projects, including cataloging, archival processing, digitization, research, and reference. Prospective volunteers with experience working in museums, libraries, or archives are encouraged to apply, however the Center considers all interested applicants. Due to the Center’s small staff, limited volunteer openings, and required skills, not every applicant is placed.

HOW TO APPLY

Interested applicants should complete a Volunteer Application and send it to csh@cityofsacramento.org or to the Center at the address below. Applications will be reviewed and applicants will be contacted for an interview if there is a current volunteer need.

Selected volunteers will be assigned a supervisor from the Center’s staff. Together, a project or work plan will be finalized, and a work schedule set. The supervisor will serve as the volunteer’s primary contact with the Center.

If you have additional questions about the Volunteer Program, please email csh@cityofsacramento.org or call (916) 808-7072.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The Center regularly seeks currently enrolled or recent Library and Information Science graduate students for archives internships. The Center’s Internship Program is aimed at providing students with practical archival experience, and the focus can be on a variety of aspects of the archival profession, including processing, cataloging and metadata, digitization, reference, and outreach. Due to the Center’s small staff and limited number of internships, the application process is competitive.

HOW TO APPLY

To apply, send a cover letter, resume, and completed Intern Application to csh@cityofsacramento.org or the Center’s address below.

Applications will be reviewed by appropriate CSH staff members, who will then contact the applicant to arrange an interview. During the interview, the interviewer(s) and the applicant will discuss goals, work plans, and expectations. CSH staff will contact the interviewee within one week of the interview to confirm internship status.

Once selected, interns will be assigned a supervisor from the Center’s staff. Together, a project or work plan will be finalized, and a work schedule set. The supervisor will serve as the intern’s primary contact with the Center.

If you have additional questions about the Internship Program, please email csh@cityofsacramento.org or call (916) 808-7072.
